Tour of the Rostock city harbor

Welcome to Rostock's city harbor, the oldest port area in Rostock. It was created around 800 years ago and has shaped the development of the Hanseatic city over many centuries. Today, the harbor development of the 19th and early 20th centuries is predominant. The city of Rostock is currently planning several major construction projects to make the city harbour even more attractive for locals and visitors in the coming years as an experience and promenade, while at the same time implementing the current flood protection requirements for the city center adjacent to the harbour.

The maritime tour begins at the traditional Neptunwerft ship yard at Hellingerstraße 3. From here, turn right into the next street and follow the steps down to the Warnow. Once there, keep right again and walk along the bank. After a short time, you will reach the street "Am Kabutzenhof". The second stop on the tour is only about 80 meters further on: the former ferry to Gehlsdorf, right next to Otto's Restaurantschiff. Turn left here and enjoy the view of the water. The third stop is only around 120 meters away. First follow the road "Am Kabutzenhof" for 80 meters, then turn left and continue for about 100 meters. Then turn left again into a parking lot and walk directly to the banks of the Warnow. You will now see stage 602 on the right, a popular venue right by the water. From here, follow the riverside path for another 230 meters to Jacque's Wein-Depot - the fourth stop on the tour. This is where the former Rostock fish hall is located, now at Warnowufer 61. Continue along the Warnow for around 550 meters in the direction of Haedgehalbinsel and Kohlenkai. You pass the "Am blauen Kran" boat hire, turn left to the old ship's anchor and then left again - and you have arrived on the Haedge peninsula. Just a stone's throw away - around 300 meters - is the sixth stop on the tour: the "Fischerbastion" harbour house. To get there, walk back along the Haedge peninsula and then turn right towards the city harbor. To get to the next stop, follow the sidewalk at the city harbour for around 500 meters and turn right at the traffic lights onto Strandstraße. Then turn left and after just 50 meters you will reach your next destination: Kaufmannsbrücken and Hafenkneipen. Turn right again at the traffic lights, then about 100 meters in the direction of the promenade and finally right again - after another 150 meters you are at the eighth stop: the old shipyard crane at the city harbour, also known as the wooden crane. The next stop is only 300 meters away. Follow the footpath along the banks of the Warnow until you reach the historic engine shed. This is where goods were once dispatched and the old tracks of the port railroad are still visible today. From there it is about 50 meters straight ahead, then turn left onto the sidewalk and follow it for about 130 meters before turning left again towards Al Porto. After another 140 meters and a right turn, you will see the penultimate stop on the right: the Silo peninsula - a place full of industrial history and maritime atmosphere. The last section of the tour takes you another 200 meters along the banks of the Warnow. Finally, you reach the Ludewig shipyard, the end point of the tour - right next to the modern headquarters of AIDA Cruises.
