Planet Earth

On the Planetenweg
The two boards are located on the beach side of the promenade at the junction to Luisenstraße - Residenz Strandhotel. The Classic Cafe Röntgen is very close by. The sun can still be easily recognised from here.

The planet Earth
Despite intensive searching, the Earth is not only the only celestial body known to us to date on which higher life has developed within our planetary system. Even if the development of the sun limits our presence on Earth, it will still provide life-friendly conditions for the next 500 million years. Only the surface of the Earth has oceans of liquid water.

The start of space travel was marked by the launch of the artificial satellite "Sputnik 1" on 4 October 1957, and on 12 April 1961, Yuri Gagarin was the first man in space. Today, the earth is orbited by a large number of artificial objects. The ISS is currently the only manned space station.

The Earth's moon
The Earth's moon is the only moon on Earth and probably formed after the collision of a body about the size of Mars with the primordial Earth. The moon gradually coalesced out of the material that had been chipped off from both bodies.

The first images of the far side of the moon, which was previously unknown, were taken on 7 October 1959 by the Soviet probe Lunik 3. On 21 July 1969, Neil Armstrong was the first person to set foot on the moon, the first and so far only celestial body outside the Earth.
