The planet Neptune

On the Planet Trail
The board is also located on a northern parallel path to the Baltic Sea coastal cycle path (D2) in the Stoltera nature reserve approx. 500 metres behind the "Wilhelmshöhe" restaurant. This board is also easy to reach by bike. Cape Stoltera is about 300 metres further west from here.

The planet Neptune
Perturbations in the orbital motion of the planet Uranus led to the assumption that another planet must exist beyond the orbit of Uranus. Independently of each other, the Englishman John Adams and the Frenchman Urbain Le Verrier calculated the orbit of this hypothetical eighth planet in 1843 and 1846 respectively. On 23 September 1846, Johann Galle from the Berlin Observatory found the new planet very close to the calculated position, thus bringing a triumph to classical Newtonian mechanics.

Neptune is one of the gas giants and is the most compact of them. At just under four times the diameter of the Earth and 57.74 times the volume of the Earth, it is the fourth largest planet in the solar system after Uranus. In the storms that rage in its atmosphere, wind speeds of up to 2100 km/h have been measured, the highest wind speeds in the solar system.

The largest of the 14 moons of Neptune known to date is Triton. With a surface temperature of -235°C, it has been measured to have the lowest temperature in our solar system. "Voyager 2" was the only space probe to fly past Neptune on 25 August 1989, thus ending its spectacular journey to the four gas planets.
