Thalasso Therapy Trail 8 - healing climate, sandy beach and seaside resort

Take a deep breath in the coastal forest... the Rostock Heath is Rostock's unique urban forest with 6,000 hectares of contiguous woodland directly bordering the Baltic Sea. A hike along the thalasso therapy trails in Hohe Düne and Markgrafenheide takes you to different corners of the heath at different levels of exertion and combines active recreation and experiencing nature in a wonderful way. Sometimes you walk directly along the surf zone or through the diverse and varied landscape with beech and pine forests and wet moors - but always close to the Baltic Sea in the salty sea climate, which often meets the soothing forest air here.

Details
Your hike on the Thalasso Therapy Trail 8 starts in Markgrafenheide at the Stubbenwiese car park - located in the bend, directly behind the dune belt. Keep left in the car park, walk past the Hohe Düne climbing forest access point and towards beach access 19 at the end of the car park. Now walk about 3 kilometres eastwards along the beach, preferably as close as possible to the surf zone. Breathing in deeply the sea air enriched with natural aerosols is like a soothing open-air inhalation and wind cosmetics to boot - it is good for body and soul in more ways than one. Once you arrive at Rosenort, you can take a short breather at the rest area behind the dunes before heading back west - along the beach, of course. Leave the beach at beach access 36 (before StrandResort Markgrafenheide) and walk along the Hütelmoor nature reserve on the side facing away from the sea. The path leads you to a fork in the road, where you continue straight ahead. The moor ditch, which connects the two nature reserves Hütelmoor (to the north) and Radelsee (to the south of Markgrafenheide), now runs along the left-hand side. It is lined by an avenue of oak trees up to 300 years old. After approx. 650 metres you reach Budentannenweg, which you follow in a southerly direction until you reach the main road. You walk past the Baltic Freizeit campsite and pass the Forstfuhrmannshof - Markgrafenheide's oldest residential complex - shortly before the crossroads.

You can now explore the coastal town of Markgrafenheide a little further along Warnemünder Straße and then reach your starting point for the hike, the Stubbenwiese car park, after approx. 900 m.

Information & tips on climatic hiking and walking

  1. Exercise in the fresh air is good for every body at any age and in every season.
  2. Walking on the forest floor is more sheltered from the wind and sun than on the beach. The atmosphere of the forest allows the body to rest more quickly.
  3. The air in the surf zone is in constant motion and contains maritime aerosol, the effect of which is similar to a natural inhaler.
  4. The sea edge is the zone with the highest air purity, which is particularly suitable for allergy sufferers.
  5. A walk on the beach against the wind strains and trains the joints and muscles more than a hike on solid forest ground.
  6. When climate hiking, wear sportswear and sturdy shoes appropriate to the season.
