Beer has a long history in Rostock. Even in the Middle Ages, Rostock beer stood for quality and flavour. The Hanseatische Brauerei Rostock emerged from this 760-year-old brewing tradition. On 28 March 1878, engineers Georg Mahn and Friedrich Ohlerich announced that they had "acquired" the Julius Meyersche Bierbrauerei. After an eventful company history - characterised by two world wars, the division of Germany and reunification - no other brewery is so closely associated with Rostock and its people. For generations, the beer of the Hanseatische Brauerei has been brewed by Rostockers for Rostockers in the heart of the city.
