A hike on the Thalasso Therapy Trail 1 is also an invitation to actively and consciously immerse yourself in the beneficial atmosphere of the Stoltera nature reserve. Take your time and discover the beauty of nature and the beneficial effects of the sea air and the forest. Exercise by the sea and the influence of the marine climate have a particularly beneficial effect on our organism and help us to relax.

The 3.7 km loop begins at the Wilhelmshöhe car park, where the information board also marks the start and end point of the hike. Follow the yellow signs downhill towards the sea through the narrow Teufelsschlucht gorge at Wilhelmshöhe. Once you have reached the beach, turn left and walk approx. 200 metres along the cliffs towards Geinitzort, the headland that marks the northernmost point of the coastline. Here you take the steps back up into the coastal forest, where you follow winding paths - with the Baltic Sea on your right - towards Geinitzort. Enjoy the views of the cliffs and the expanse of the Baltic Sea, with small detours to viewpoints every now and then.

After approx. 1 kilometre, you will reach the headland 13 metres above sea level. The Stoltera cliff is an 83-hectare nature reserve. It is mainly characterised by its glacial deposits and natural coastal dynamics. Sand martins breed in the cliff; elder buckthorn bushes, sal willow and trembling poplar grow on the edge of the cliff. The majority of the coastal forest is made up of mixed deciduous forest with copper beech, hornbeam, pedunculate oak and birch.

About 400 metres after Geinitzort, the path branches off to the left towards the Ostseeland hotel and restaurant. You cross the area, perhaps take a short break and then follow the Stolteraer Weg to the next group of houses, where you turn left again towards the coast. You will soon reach the familiar path in the coastal forest, which you follow back to the starting point.

The last few metres take you back to the car park on a flat forest path - or you can make a detour to the Wilhelmshöhe restaurant, where you can end the tour on the wonderful terrace.

Please do not step too close to the edge of the cliff. The cliff itself is a fragile habitat due to its northern exposure, its unhindered exposure to the elements, the coastal drop-offs and the high salt content, and break-offs can occur at any time.

Information & tips on climatic hiking and walking

  1. Exercise in the fresh air is good for every body at any age and in every season.
  2. Walking on the forest floor is more sheltered from the wind and sun than on the beach. The atmosphere of the forest allows the body to rest more quickly.
  3. The air in the surf zone is in constant motion and contains maritime aerosol, the effect of which is similar to a natural inhaler.
  4. The sea edge is the zone with the highest air purity, which is particularly suitable for allergy sufferers.
  5. A walk on the beach against the wind strains and trains the joints and muscles more than a hike on solid forest ground.
  6. When climate hiking, wear sportswear and sturdy shoes appropriate to the season.
